Favourite Foundation Review! Estee Lauder Double Wear, Maximum Coverage, Creamy Vanilla , SPF 15

We all have at least ONE beauty product we can rely on! For me, it's this expensive yet totally effective foundation that has been a firm favourite of mine since 2012!

Update: As of early 2016, I decided to stop using products that test on animals so I no longer support Estee Lauder as a company or their animal testing counterparts.

For anyone who has facial scarring from acne, it's quite common for them to want to conceal their flaws on a day to day basis - some more than others, whilst some people are not bothered about them at all! I am one of those people who prefers to wear foundation when at work or going out for the day! I have mild scarring which makes my face appear more red than it actually is and I'm not fond of it. I have tried a lot of drug-store foundations and there's only a couple I actually like but even they don't offer the coverage I desire. The problem is, the more sheer a foundation is in consistency, the more I am going to have to apply to get the best coverage which is a waste of product and money as well as leaving a horrible unnatural finish.

I had just about had enough of not getting enough coverage and I wanted a more natural finish as I hate the appearance and feeling of wearing make-up. I googled high coverage foundations and I was also recommended the regular Double Wear foundation which lead me to try out the maximum cover version! According to Estee Lauder, the maximum cover foundation is for those with pigmentation issues, face scars or even surgical scarring on the face and body!

The usual Double Wear is said to be medium to high coverage but I was put off by the packaging - no pump or tube to squeeze the right product out of! Plus, I needed the highest coverage possible and although the buggar cost me £28.50 at the time, it was incredibly worth it!

I couldn't believe the insane amount of coverage I got from just a small amount! I do mix it in with a tiny amount of my drugstore foundation because it makes the perfect consistency for my skin. I only have to use a very small amount of concealer when using this foundation which means I'm actually wearing less make-up than I did before! This has an SPF of 15 in and one tube lasts me years, in fact, I still have enough of the first one I ever bought which makes the costs justifiable!

At the time of my first ever purchase, I bought  a porcelain shade which was too pale for me. The ladies at the Estee Lauder counter said I could swap it for a darker shade but I decided to give it to my friend who loves this foundation for nights/evenings! I repurchased one in "creamy ivory" which at the time was the second lightest shade!

Estee Lauder have redesigned the font on the packaging and some of the colour shades have changed. I've bought another since then and I now use their current lightest shade, Creamy Vanilla but some users have complained it's too dark for their pale complexion and I do agree, for the "lightest" shade in the I am quite lucky I am not extremely pale but I can understand the frustration of others because I have the exact same problem with drugstore colours! I really don't understand why Estee Lauder have discontinued the lightest shade for maximum cover because this will only result in a loss of customers if anything, as some people might feel they need more coverage than the usual Double Wear!

The consistency is thick yet feels fairly light on the skin and you have to work quickly when applying (by the way, I use my fingers to apply this and gently pat the product to blend it in) the product because it dries fast! This is predominately a matte foundation but I get dry skin on my nose and it doesn't emphasise it at all, so I feel this foundation has the potential to work with normal, oily and combination skin types!

Sadly, the price has also increased to £30.00 for 30ml of product but the Estee Lauder counter staff should be able to give you small bottle samples if you are having doubts about buying their products!

Overall rating:

Packaging: 8/10 - I think it's very sophisticated looking, I like it! I also like that you don't end up squeezing too much product out so it's quite practical!

Longevity: 10/10 - They last years, no joke!

Consistency: 71/10 I don't like how thick it feels when applying but it dries natural and matte which is great for me!

Price: 6/10 It's not cheap but it lasts years so you could argue you get double for your money!

I will probably ALWAYS use this! I am quite interested in the Tarte Clay foundation, as I heard it also results in exceptionally high coverage - but Estee Lauder is a lot easier for me to get hold of!

Estee Lauder, do NOT discontinue this marvellous product! :)

Thanks for reading! Shez :) x
